A hike that combines nature, history, and literature to Mombarcaro, where on clear days the wind carries the scent of the sea and your gaze gets lost between the Alps and the Apennines

Starting from the charming historic center of San Benedetto Belbo, a favorite place of the Alba-born writer Beppe Fenoglio, we will take you on a discovery of a territory overlooking the Belbo and Bormida Valleys—a true ocean of hills once crossed by pilgrims, merchants, and knights.

We will reach Mombarcaro for the lunch break

At 896m altitude, Mombarcaro is known as the peak of the Langhe.

The historical origin of the name is indeed Monte delle Barche (Mountain of Boats), and from the highest point of the village, on clear days, you can enjoy a panorama that extends all the way to the Ligurian Sea.

We will visit what is considered one of the most interesting historic centers in the Alta Langa, with its ancient medieval gate, quiet little alleys, and an exceptional viewpoint.

After a moment of pleasant relaxation and a coffee, we will return to San Benedetto Belbo along quiet, scenic paths and small roads.

Upon returning to San Benedetto Belbo, for those who wish, there will be a social gathering at La Bottega del Caffè, where you can enjoy delicious traditional snacks accompanied by a good glass of wine or an ice cream… the choice is yours.

Local visits during and after the hike:

15th-century Chapel of San Rocco; inside, it preserves a cycle of frescoes attributed to Antonino Occello da Ceva.

Fenoglian literary sites and the Censa di Placido Canonica.
