San Giorgio Scarampi

A natural belvedere, a terrace overlooking the Langhe.

This is San Giorgio, a small village – a tower, two chrches and a bunch of houses – where you can find a wide selection of the wine products of this territory, in the fourteenth –century cellars where the Wine Shop is sited.

There are also theatre shows, concerts, cultural happenings and art exhibitions in the restored seventeenth-century fraternity.

Restoring after restoring, each building has received its “maquillage”, and the original atmosphere has been recreated.

It is now the best “other” to match with the surrounding beauty.

History

San Giorgio was in the Middle Ages owned by the town of Asti, and had a certain strategic relevance, though it wasn’t autonomous, and was included in the territory of Vesime, until the end of the thirteenth century.

The town became important after its castle had been built, between 1300 and 1382.

Since the fifteenth century the town has been named San Giorgio; the name “Scarampi”, from the name of the town’s lords, has been added in 1518.

Then the feud was owned by many foreign families: the Sforza, the Galeazzi, the Salvati, the Foresti, the Scazzola, the Gozani, the Gambera and lately the Savoia.
