Italy has the largest number of native grape varieties<\/strong>, and therefore a rich ampelographic biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n

Indeed, in the last century many grape varieties were cultivated, but the arrival of the three plagues of the 19th century<\/strong>, powdery mildew, downy mildew and phylloxera, together with the reduction of vineyard surface area and other causes, significantly reduced their number.<\/p>\n\n

Let’s take a closer look at a grape variety, the liseriet<\/strong>, well remembered by elderly winegrowers of the Bormida valley.<\/p>\n\n

It was a small grape, with good acidity, used mainly as a table grape.<\/p>\nPaolo Crema<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n

But until the last century it remained confined to a small area, in the Bormida valley of Cuneo and Savona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Some professors from the Alba oenological school took an interest in liseriet, but purely for educational purposes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Moreover, the area under vine was truly small<\/strong>, limited to a few rows or the occasional pergola for family use, the characteristic \u201ctopie\u201d.<\/p>\n\n

Only in 2018<\/strong> was liseriet entered into the national register of Italian grape varieties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

In 2025, cultivation was authorized<\/strong> in Piedmont. As of October 2025, there are active vineyards covering 2.43 ha<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

This information emerged during an interesting meeting in Bossolasco<\/a>, on October 6, 2026<\/strong>, titled significantly: Liseriet, the return of the mountain grape variety<\/em>, with talks by Stefano Raimondi<\/strong>, ampelographer at the University of Turin, Matteo Fenoglio<\/strong>, Producers’ Association, Sergio Germano<\/strong>, promoter of the project, and Sergio Miravalle<\/strong>, journalist. A tasting<\/a> followed <\/strong>of liseriet, paired with local products from the Langa territory.<\/p>\n\n

The Liseriet Project<\/strong> was also presented, developed by an association of producers, with the aim of promoting and spreading its use. In 2027<\/strong>, the first bottle of Liseriet<\/strong> should be put on the market, but in a sparkling version<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Liseriet: tasting and pairings<\/h2>\n\n

To the eye it appears brilliant<\/strong>, with the characteristic straw-yellow<\/strong> nuance, with greenish highlights, and good viscosity.<\/p>\n\n

On the nose, sensory notes of fruit and herbs<\/strong> stand out first, and as the olfactory examination continues, hints of hazelnut<\/strong> and sage<\/strong> are also present.<\/p>\n\n

On the palate, liseriet is persistent<\/strong> and pleasant, with a marked prevalence of acidity<\/strong>, and a pleasantly almond-like<\/strong> aftertaste.<\/p>\n\n

Liseriet is best enjoyed at a temperature of around 10\u00b0C<\/strong>, using ISO tasting glasses or wine glasses.<\/p>\n\n

At the table, it pairs well with cured meats<\/strong>, slightly aged cheeses<\/strong>, <\/strong>robiola<\/a>, seafood dishes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

It can evolve for 3\u20134 years<\/strong> if the bottle is stored under optimal conditions, but it is recommended to drink it after one year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
