Here are <strong>a few tips<\/strong> that might help you in case your know-how is a little low.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A little trivial premise<\/h2>\n\n<p>I suppose I am about to state something extremely obvious, but it is always good to say: wine is <strong>made to be drunk<\/strong> and is a <strong>living thing<\/strong>, so once it reaches its evolution curve, it will tend to decay.<\/p>\n\n<p>Of course, <strong>great wines<\/strong> can benefit from a long rest in the cellar (if done properly, following the tips below) as the right conditions <strong>promote their evolution<\/strong>, but don&#8217;t forget them there.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On what does a wine&#8217;s longevity depend?<\/h2>\n\n<p>The longevity of a wine is closely linked to some of its <strong>intrinsic characteristics<\/strong> (the <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/magazine-en\/wines-vines\/\">grape variety<\/a>) and is determined by the presence of substances that promote it, such as <strong>acids<\/strong>, <strong>tannins <\/strong>(rich antioxidant properties), <strong>minerals<\/strong> and <strong>sugars<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Winemaking<\/strong> and <strong>aging techniques<\/strong> also play a key role. <\/p>\n\n<p>For example, a wine with <strong>good tannicity<\/strong>, therefore aged in wooden barrels, will tend to <strong>keep<\/strong> longer than a younger wine with low acidity aged in steel.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is therefore very important to <strong>know the aging capacity<\/strong> of the bottles you wish to collect, so you can determine the best time to enjoy them, without fear of running into unpleasant surprises.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-243744\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-1536x960.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-550x344.jpg 550w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll-450x281.jpg 450w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/calice_vino_ll.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In case you need <strong>some<\/strong> tips, I can give you some quick suggestions, using wines from our area as examples. <\/p>\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with the greats. <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/wines\/docg-barolo\/\">Barolo<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/wines\/docg-barbaresco\/\">Barbaresco<\/a> can age in the bottle around <strong>ten<\/strong> to <strong>fifteen years<\/strong> from the date of bottling, but if we are talking about very good vintages, the period can extend up to twenty-five years.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.langhe.net\/en\/product-category\/red-wines\/barbera-en\/\">Barbera<\/a> can be kept <strong>between three and four years<\/strong>, even six if the vintage was memorable. <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.langhe.net\/en\/product-category\/red-wines\/dolcetto-en\/\">Dolcetto<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/wines\/dogliani-docg\/\">Dogliani<\/a>, is a red to be drunk young, so it is best not to wait beyond <strong>two<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Turning to whites, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/wines\/docg-roero-arneis\/\">Arneis<\/a> to name one, the ideal is to consume them <strong>within the year<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.langhe.net\/en\/product-category\/sparkling\/\">bubbles<\/a>, you always have to consider the method of winemaking: if produced in an <strong>autoclave<\/strong>, the sooner you drink it, the better. On the other hand, if we are talking about <strong>classic method<\/strong>, the date of disgorgement counts: from this you can wait <strong>six months<\/strong>, a year at most.<\/p>\n\n<p>Now we can get down <strong>to the practical<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The ideal environment<\/h2>\n\n<p>Maintaining the quality of wines is related to many factors, including <strong>light<\/strong>, <strong>temperature<\/strong>, humidity, vibration, and odors. <\/p>\n\n<p>To figure out if your <strong>wine cellar <\/strong>is the <strong>right space<\/strong> for your bottles to be placed, here are summarized five simple little rules.<\/p>\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moisture<\/h6>\n\n<p>The storage environment should have a relative humidity between <strong>65%<\/strong> and <strong>75%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temperature<\/h6>\n\n<p>It should be <strong>medium-low<\/strong> (12-15\u00b0C) and <strong>constant<\/strong> (it is best to avoid temperature changes).<\/p>\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Light<\/h6>\n\n<p>Bottles must be <strong>protected from UV light<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Smells<\/h6>\n\n<p>The place you choose must be <strong>free of strong, lingering odors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vibrations<\/h6>\n\n<p>The environment should not be subjected to intense and repeated <strong>vibration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>These ideal requirements, if met, promote an <strong>improvement in wine maturation<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perfect, but how do I arrange the bottles?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Having verified the environmental conditions, it is time to move on to the actual <strong>organization of the cellar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you have the possibility, wooden shelves are ideal.
