The truffle is in fact the <strong>fruiting body<\/strong> of the mycelium.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The prized black truffle<\/h2>\n\n<p><em>Tuber melanosporum Vittadini &#8211; scientific <\/em> name for identifying this special fungus &#8211; grows entirely underground, in symbiosis with <strong>oaks<\/strong>, <strong>hazels<\/strong>, and <strong>limes <\/strong>and can be found at a depth of 5 to 30 centimeters or more-in soils well exposed to sunlight. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/FOTO-TARTUFO-NERO-1-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-240922\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/FOTO-TARTUFO-NERO-1-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/FOTO-TARTUFO-NERO-1-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/FOTO-TARTUFO-NERO-1-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Its harvest is <strong>from December to March<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>which is why it is often found in winter recipes.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to recognize it?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Visually, it has a <strong>round shape <\/strong>the size of a walnut or even larger, up to that of an orange (weighing up to a kilogram in some cases).<\/p>\n\n<p>Its <strong>surface is irregular<\/strong> and full of small pyramid-shaped bulges, flat or somewhat lowered in the center, dark in color, toward shades of black (hence the name <em>Melanosporum<\/em>), with the presence of rust-colored spots.<\/p>\n\n<p>Internally, the <strong>gleba is reddish-black or blackish-brown<\/strong>, with many thin, light purple lines.
