Let&#8217;s discover together the stories behind the wine to come!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Poderi Gianni Gagliardo<\/h2>\n\n<p>About the 2023 vintage, the feelings were definitely positive for <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/poderi-gianni-gagliardo\/\">Poderi Gianni Gagliardo<\/a> of La Morra.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Paolo Gagliardo<\/span> &#8211; The vintage was <strong>certainly challenging <\/strong>at the vineyard level: extreme climatic events, such as prolonged drought, followed by nonstop rains, and later summer heat spikes, caused signs of <strong>water stress<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>However, these phenomena <strong>did not affect the overall quality of the grapes<\/strong>, which yielded fresh and complex wines with accomplished and ripe tannic textures.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Giorgio Barovero <\/h2>\n\n<p>About the <strong>difficult climate<\/strong> this year, the owner of the eponymous <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/barovero-giorgio\/\">winery<\/a> in Monforte d&#8217;Alba also expressed himself.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Giorgio<\/span> &#8211; At my place, the harvest was of <strong>good quality<\/strong> overall. <\/p>\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the spring <strong>rains <\/strong>with the <strong>drought<\/strong> of past years and this summer have reduced the quantity of both the <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/vines\/dolcetto-en\/\">dolcetto<\/a><strong> <\/strong>and the <strong>barbera<\/strong>. So the <strong>wine <\/strong>this year will be <strong>little but good<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bosca Spumanti<\/h2>\n\n<p>From Canelli, the well-known <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/bosca\/\">sparkling wine company<\/a>, tells us about the impact of weather conditions.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Nicol\u00f2<\/span> &#8211; Climatically, in May, Piedmont saw <strong>abundant rainfall<\/strong> that helped reduce the water deficit we had been carrying since 2022. Areas should be separated, however: in the <strong>Alba area<\/strong> the rainfall contribution was equal to that of previous years, while in the <strong>Alessandria<\/strong> and <strong>Asti<\/strong> areas, it rained about half as much.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Bosca-cantina3-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-201164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Bosca-cantina3-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Bosca-cantina3-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Bosca-cantina3-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bosca&#8217;s underground cathedrals<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>July saw a sharp drop in water levels due to <strong>high temperatures<\/strong> that also <strong>accelerated <\/strong>the <strong>ripening process of whites<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>sparkling wine grapes<\/strong> (chardonnay and pinot) reached maturity around mid-August with <strong>very good quality<\/strong> but <strong>small quantity<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>hail<\/strong> in early July swept over a truly extraordinary swath starting in Turin and reaching as far as Liguria. Unfortunately, we <strong>lost much of the production<\/strong> in the Neviglie and Trezzo vineyards, but the grapes that were saved arrived at the winery in good condition thanks to the timely practices we implemented in the vineyard.<\/p>\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the next vintage also remains at risk because of <strong>damage on wood<\/strong> that will lead to a reduction in new shoots. <\/p>\n\n<p>Early September rains encouraged excellent ripening of the red grapes of the Alba area (especially <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/vines\/nebbiolo-en\/\">nebbiolo<\/a>), which were <strong>harvested in early October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Disease-wise<\/strong>, the biggest problem today, especially on certain grape varieties such as chardonnay and <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/vines\/barbera-en\/\">barbera<\/a> is <strong>flavescence dor\u00e9e<\/strong>, which leads to plant death.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pelissero <\/h2>\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.langhe.net\/produttore\/pelissero\/\">Pelissero winery<\/a> in Treiso is proud of its achievements in this decidedly difficult year, but one that will yield interesting wines.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Giorgio Pelissero<\/span> \u2014 We started harvesting grapes on Sept. 1 and finished on Oct. 15-a commitment that lasted <strong>almost seven weeks<\/strong> and put the winemakers to the test.<\/p>\n\n<p>Heat, drought, hail, adverse weather, vine diseases, we really tried them all this year, but thanks to <strong>careful and patient vineyard care<\/strong>, we managed very well.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Vendemmia-Nebbiolo-900x563.jpg\" alt=\"Nebbiolo Harvest\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Harvest time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>We are more than satisfied with the result achieved: the quantity is definitely below average, but <strong>the quality has rewarded us for all our efforts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Elegant<\/strong>, <strong>soft<\/strong> wines with tannins that are not too pronounced, but definitely pleasant. They will certainly give products very similar to what used to be made.<\/p>\n\n<p>The vine is a resilient plant: although it has been hot, the alcohols are not excessive and the acidity<strong> is good<\/strong>, but as with all torrid years, we had to give up some color.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is too early to draw conclusions, but I think there will be <strong>wines with a lot of typicity<\/strong>, balanced and with good aging potential.<\/p>\n\n<p>Once again, as in other vintages, the most surprising results were obtained with the <strong>nebbiolo<\/strong>, which always proves to be <strong>a perfect wine machine<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ca D&#8217; Tantin <\/h2>\n\n<p>From Calosso <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/ca-d-tantin\/\">Winery<\/a>, Marco gave us insights into their <strong>moscato<\/strong> and <strong>nebbiolo grapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Marco Venturino<\/span> \u2014 Starting with the <strong>moscato<\/strong> harvest on August 18, we closed with <strong>nebbiolo<\/strong> and <strong>gamba di pernice<\/strong> (Calosso&#8217;s native grape variety, which gives us Calosso DOC) in the last decade of September.<\/p>\n\n<p>These particular climatic conditions, <strong>reduced yields<\/strong> by about 20 percent or even 30 percent in some cases, ensuring high-quality grapes.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" grape vineyard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>Yield<\/strong> talk aside, the 2023 vintage will give us wines with somewhat <strong>higher than average gradations<\/strong> on all types, but certainly harmonious and <strong>complex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>We are consequently <strong>very satisfied<\/strong> with this vintage.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Serio e Battista Borgogno<\/h2>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/serio-e-battista-borgogno\/\">Serio and Battista Borgogno<\/a> of Barolo announce that they were particularly lucky.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Federica<\/span> \u2014 Our vineyards did not receive a visit from hail, although a few plots, more south-facing, suffered some <strong>sunburn <\/strong>of berries and leaves.<\/p>\n\n<p>In any case, <strong>timeliness of intervention<\/strong> was undoubtedly a trump card, in treatments, timing of green pruning, grass mowing, etc. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" balance<\/strong> in the collection date was of paramount importance.<\/p>\n\n<p>Our harvest began in <strong>mid-September<\/strong> with <strong>dolcetto<\/strong> grapes and ended with <strong>nebbiolo <\/strong>deed in Barolo in about <strong>mid-October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Healthy grapes<\/strong>, <strong>with a nice skin<\/strong>, perhaps a tad thinner than in previous years, but overall the result is extremely positive. <\/p>\n\n<p>The wine currently shows great color and aroma, <strong>austere<\/strong> but <strong>elegant tannins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agricola Marrone<\/h2>\n\n<p>When we interviewed them they were in the midst of the nebbiolo harvest in La Morra, the temperature even reached<strong> 32\u00b0C<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Denise Marrone<\/span> \u2014 We will remember 2023 as <strong>one of the most anomalous years<\/strong> we have encountered in our long history. <\/p>\n\n<p>Our mission is to <strong>respect the plant as much<\/strong> as possible to make sure it can cope with these changes as well as possible. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The harvest of the Marrone winery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>We arrived at harvest with <strong>green, healthy plants<\/strong> that have held up this difficult year. <\/p>\n\n<p>In Madonna di Como, the <strong>skin<\/strong> was very <strong>thick<\/strong>, tasty, reports the typicality of the area and soil, not bitter, the pedicel detached well from the berry, which turns out colorful. <\/p>\n\n<p>Harvesting was done in boxes, and the grapes were placed in cold storage to lower the temperature to 8 degrees: <strong>nebbiolo<\/strong>, in fact, <strong>is sensitive to oxidation<\/strong>. It was a matter of choice; at our place, harvesting at night or at the crack of dawn is practically impossible because there is dew.<\/p>\n\n<p>In such difficult vintages, technology helps: our crusher, the <em>Pellenc<\/em>, (which we have already been told about <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/230053\/remedies-natural-treatment-vine\/\">here<\/a>), allowed us to completely remove all the dry from the bunches that had taken the hail, and we separated all the stems, preventing them from going into the tank in contact with the must.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Of the whites produced<\/strong> now for almost 20 days, we can already say that <strong>the quality is high<\/strong>, especially from the aromatic point of view: excellent structured aromas, not excessive alcohol and good freshness. <\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>yield<\/strong> is definitely <strong>poor<\/strong>, but at least the <strong>product<\/strong> is <strong>excellent<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Barbera<\/strong> can also begin to be talked about; <strong>it has a beautiful color<\/strong> and is very structured.<\/p>\n\n<p>It was a very slow harvest: we <strong>started later<\/strong> than last year, in mid-September, so there was time to manage each individual winemaking. <\/p>\n\n<p>The work done in the vineyard has amply repaid the efforts of years of<strong> much tilling of the soil<\/strong>, going against common thinking focused on touching as little as possible and letting nature take its course unaided.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Azienda Agricola Francesco Rosso <\/h2>\n\n<p>Also confirming the <strong>uniqueness of this 2023<\/strong> vintage is in the <strong>Santo Stefano Roero<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/business\/francesco-rosso\/\">Farm<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">Maria<\/span> \u2014 Little production, but very good I would say: in fact, July 6 marked a critical point <strong>because of the hailstorm<\/strong> that was unleashed affecting even the &#8220;Madonna delle Grazie&#8221; cru where we are located. <\/p>\n\n<p>These were difficult days: such an <strong>event is not remembered even in the historical minds in being <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Francesco-Rosso-vigna-eventi-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"Francesco-Rosso-vigna - eventi\" class=\"wp-image-226073\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Francesco-Rosso-vigna-eventi-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Francesco-Rosso-vigna-eventi-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Francesco-Rosso-vigna-eventi-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Francesco harvests his nebbiolo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>But then, as we are wont to do in difficult years, we thought how we could remember the year 2023 in a positive way: this is the year when we started laying the foundation for <strong>our future bubbly<\/strong>, a label that was still missing. <\/p>\n\n<p>In a few years (about 3), we would get to taste our first <strong>classic method<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/vines\/arneis-en\/\">arneis<\/a> base!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A &#8220;taste&#8221; from the mountains of the Aosta Valley<\/h2>\n\n<p>To get an idea of what it was like outside Piedmont, we asked <a href=\"https:\/\/grosjeanvins.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grosjean Vins<\/a>, a typical winery in Valle d&#8217;Aosta, a few questions and got a comprehensive answer that was quite different from what producers in our area experienced.<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"uppercase--md\">MARIE CLAIRE<\/span> \u2014 The 2023 vintage was <strong>cooler <\/strong>than the previous year&#8217;s, fortunately the heat spikes were not continuous, so grape ripening returned to what it was a few decades ago.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>agronomic season<\/strong> was not easy: <strong>rain<\/strong> was concentrated <strong>on the flower<\/strong> (May\/June), but thanks to careful <strong>organic<\/strong> vineyard management, we maintained a healthy plant with very active leaves, so as to put the ripening of the later grapes in excellent conditions.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Grosjean-vendemmia-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-239808\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Grosjean-vendemmia-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Grosjean-vendemmia-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Grosjean-vendemmia-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The harvest of Grosjean Vins, in the Aosta Valley. Image credit grosjeanvins.it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Harvesting began in early September with the grapes for the sparkling wine base, which will give rise to our <strong>Metodo Classico Montmary ros\u00e9 extra brut<\/strong> (composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay), and ended a few days ago with the harvesting of our later indigenous grape, <strong>fumin<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>It was a <strong>generous year <\/strong>from a quantity point of view, but it maintained very good quality thanks mainly to the <strong>good balance between alcohol and acidity<\/strong>, which was not the case in recent years, from memory in 2016.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-right quote--is-small typography__quote\">\n<cite class=\"quote__author uppercase--md\">Marie Claire<\/cite>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"quote__book serif--sm\">Grosjean Vins<\/span><\/p>\n<cite class=\"quote__author uppercase--md\">Marie Claire<\/cite><span class=\"quote__book serif--sm\">Grosjean Vins<\/span><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>In late September and early October, the weather was almost summer-like, <strong>dry <\/strong>and <strong>windy<\/strong>, which is not good for the mountains and the harvesters, but perfect for ripening late grapes, allowing a good alcohol content by Valle d&#8217;Aosta standards and a <strong>good nose\/mouth balance<\/strong> at the end of fermentation, with dizzying growth in dry extracts, never seen before.
