During the fair, the <strong>streets of the historic center <\/strong>are filled with <strong>colorful stalls<\/strong> offering a <strong>variety of products <\/strong>made from the star vegetable.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also <strong>performances<\/strong>, concerts, <strong>cooking demonstrations<\/strong>, contests and lectures to <strong>promote knowledge <\/strong>and the importance of preserving<strong> local bell pepper varieties<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">September in Asti: Palio, Festival delle Sagre (Festival of Festivals) and Douja D&#8217;or<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of<strong> Asti <\/strong>the month of September offers<strong> three must-see events<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palio is an <strong>exciting <\/strong>horse <strong>race <\/strong>that dates back to the 13th century, where passion,<strong> village pride<\/strong> and<strong> medieval<\/strong> atmosphere are the essential elements.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Festival of Festivals <\/strong>is an <strong>event <\/strong>for food and wine lovers, an<strong> extraordinary opportunity<\/strong> to enjoy <strong>culinary delicacies<\/strong> and a festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/evento\/douja-dor-asti\/\">Douja d&#8217;Or<\/a> <\/strong>is a prestigious <strong>wine competition<\/strong> of national scope. During the opening days, visitors have the opportunity to <strong>purchase and taste the <\/strong>award-winning <strong>wines <\/strong>in the competition and participate in various <strong>side events<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiera di Vicoforte (Vicoforte Fair)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>It takes place in September  <\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-left quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p><strong>Stalls of all kinds, animals on display, travelling shows and agricultural machinery exhibitions in the shadow of the basilica.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The traditional &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/evento\/fiera-vicoforte\/\">Fera dla Madona<\/a>&#8221; is <strong>one of the largest fairs in Piedmont<\/strong>, held alongside the<strong> religious festival of the Nativity of Mary<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event begins with <strong>a procession that arrives from Mondovi<\/strong> in the early morning hours of Sept. 8 and <strong>culminates in the Basilica<\/strong> of Regina Montis Regalis with a <strong>religious ceremony <\/strong>officiated by the Bishop of Mondovi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">International White Truffle Fair of Alba  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place from October to December<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-right quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p>A unique opportunity to discover and savour the white truffle, considered the diamond of Italian cuisine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/sight\/international-alba-white-truffle-fair\/\">Alba International White Truffle Fair<\/a> is a <strong>world-renowned event <\/strong>that attracts <strong>truffle lovers <\/strong>from every corner of the globe.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the<strong> sale <\/strong>and <strong>display<\/strong> of the prized truffles, the fair also features a wide range of <strong>related events<\/strong>, such as food <strong>tastings<\/strong>, cooking demonstrations, meetings with experts and more.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Fiera-del-marrone-cuneo-1400x875.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-232227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Fiera-del-marrone-cuneo-1400x875.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Fiera-del-marrone-cuneo-900x563.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Fiera-del-marrone-cuneo-550x344.jpeg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiera del Marrone (Chestnut Fair) in Cuneo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in October  <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of the fair is to <strong>promote <\/strong>and<strong> enhanc<\/strong>e <strong>local chestnut farming<\/strong>, <strong>supporting farmers<\/strong> and spreading the <strong>culture <\/strong>of the Cuneo <strong>chestnut<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event has achieved <strong>extraordinary success<\/strong> since its revival, attracting <strong>more than one hundred thousand visitors<\/strong>, including many foreigners, who immerse themselves in the narrow streets of Cuneo&#8217;s historic center.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marrone.net\/\">Chestnut Fair<\/a> acquired the prestigious recognition of &#8220;Regional Fair&#8221; from Piedmont in 2005 and then the title of &#8220;<strong>National Fair<\/strong>&#8221; in 2009.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiera della Cisr\u00e0 in Dogliani<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in November<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-left quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p>The preparation involves the use of the prized &#8216;Cece di Nucetto&#8217; chickpea, cultivated right in the Dogliani area.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>culinary event <\/strong>with a great<strong> tradition<\/strong>, it is held during the <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/evento\/fiera-santi-cisra\/\">Saints&#8217; Fair<\/a><strong> on November 2 each year<\/strong> and attracts visitors from all over the region.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/recipes\/cisra-tripe-and-chickpeas-soup\/\">Cisr\u00e0<\/a>, a<strong> typical soup<\/strong>, is distributed<strong> in large quantities <\/strong>during the event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fair is an opportunity to savor this <strong>traditional dish<\/strong> and immerse yourself in the <strong>authentic atmosphere of the Langhe<\/strong>, with its food and wine and cultural traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiera del Bue Grasso (Fat Ox Fair) in Carr\u00f9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in December<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-right quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p>In addition to the livestock exhibition, there is an expanded weekly market and an exhibition of agricultural machinery and equipment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The first <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/evento\/fiera-del-bue-grasso-carru\/\">Fat Ox Fair<\/a> was held on December 15th, 1910 to address the <strong>shortage of slaughter animals<\/strong> and rising meat prices. During the event, <strong>breeders<\/strong> are <strong>publicly awarded <\/strong>with coveted badges and sashes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Palafiera in the Cuneo Alpine Division Square, the traditional<strong> no-stop boiled<\/strong> meat festival, organized by the Pro Loco, is also held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/presepe-vivente-dogliani-eventi-1-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"living nativity - dogliani - events\" class=\"wp-image-223660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/presepe-vivente-dogliani-eventi-1-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/presepe-vivente-dogliani-eventi-1-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/presepe-vivente-dogliani-eventi-1-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Presepe Vivente (Living Nativity) in Dogliani<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in December<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The nights of <strong>Dec. 23 and 24<\/strong> in Dogliani are enlivened by the <strong>spectacular living nativity<\/strong> scene, a <strong>magnificent representation <\/strong>involving some<strong> 350<\/strong> costumed<strong> figures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considered<strong> one of the largest nativity scenes in Italy<\/strong>, the village of <a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/en\/town\/dogliani-piemonte\/\">Dogliani<\/a> Castello creates an <strong>evocative atmosphere<\/strong> thanks to the meticulous reconstruction of scenes within its picturesque <strong>medieval alleys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fiera dei Puciu (Medlar Fair) in Farigliano<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in December<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival, dedicated to one of the most typical autumn fruits, the <strong>medlar<\/strong> (puciu), is held in conjunction with the<strong> patronal feast of St. Nicholas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other not-to-be-missed events include the grand Puciu Fair market, the &#8220;<strong>Colors and Flavors of Langa<\/strong>&#8221; In addition to <strong>animal displays<\/strong>, the fair offers art contests, <strong>markets <\/strong>and <strong>tastings<\/strong> celebrating the capon, made famous in Manzoni&#8217;s verses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Storica Fagiolata di San Defendente (Historic Bean Festival of San Defendente) in Castiglione d\u2019Asti<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in January<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-right quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p>Every year, on the feast of St Defendant on 2 January, beans are distributed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The tradition in <strong>Castiglione d&#8217;Asti<\/strong> dates back to the <strong>1200s <\/strong>and involves the <strong>distribution of beans to the poor<\/strong>. <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pro Loco &#8220;La Castiglionese&#8221; is committed to maintaining the distinctive features of the Fagiolata: the event includes a <strong>mass<\/strong>, a historical procession and <strong>free distribution of legume soup<\/strong> <strong>to those present<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Carnervale-Ivrea-1-1-1400x875.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-232223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Carnervale-Ivrea-1-1-1400x875.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Carnervale-Ivrea-1-1-900x563.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Carnervale-Ivrea-1-1-550x344.jpeg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Carnival of Ivrea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in January<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Unique<\/strong> and<strong> spectacular<\/strong> carnival with an <strong>ancient history<\/strong> that is distinguished by its traditional &#8220;Battalion of Oranges,&#8221; an <strong>engaging<\/strong> symbolic <strong>combat<\/strong> between the &#8220;orangeries&#8221; on foot and horse-drawn &#8220;war wagons,&#8221; in which<strong> oranges<\/strong> are used <strong>as weapons<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tradition is linked to the <strong>12th-century popular uprising<\/strong> against a local tyrant.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.storicocarnevaleivrea.it\/en\/home\/\">Ivrea Carnival<\/a> is <strong>recognized as an<\/strong> intangible <strong>cultural heritage of<\/strong> humanity by UNESCO and attracts <strong>visitors from all over the world <\/strong>eager to enjoy this extraordinary carnival experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Antica Danza degli Spadonari (Ancient Dance of the Swordsmen) in Venaus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in February<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, the <strong>Spadonari of Venaus<\/strong> perform their <strong>famous folk sword dance <\/strong>to honor the <strong>town&#8217;s patron saints<\/strong>, St. Blaise and St. Agatha, whose feast days fall on<strong> Feb.<\/strong> 3 and 5, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tradition, one of the<strong> oldest in the Susa Valley<\/strong>, originated between the 5th and 4th centuries and is meant to celebrate the <strong>transition from winter to spring<\/strong>, from death to rebirth, and to invoke<strong> fertility for the fields<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"875\" src=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/baio-sampeyre-eventii-1400x875.jpg\" alt=\"bay sampeyre - events\" class=\"wp-image-224639\" srcset=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/baio-sampeyre-eventii-1400x875.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/baio-sampeyre-eventii-900x563.jpg 900w, https:\/\/langhe.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/baio-sampeyre-eventii-550x344.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ba\u00eco in Sampeyre<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in February<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/langhe.net\/evento\/la-baio-di-sampeyre\/\">Ba\u00eco<\/a>&#8221; is a <strong>traditional festival<\/strong> held <strong>every five years <\/strong>in Sampeyre, <strong>Varaita Valley<\/strong>. The citizens, protected by the walls, were challenged to a race by the opposing soldiers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition is held in a meadow called &#8220;<strong>Cake Meadow<\/strong>&#8221; and only <strong>unmarried youths<\/strong> can participate according to regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Processione delle Macchine (Procession of Machines) in Vercelli<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place on Good Friday  <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote quote--pull-right quote--is-small typography__quote\"><p>The procession is a moment of devotion and participation for the whole community.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A fascinating <strong>religious rite<\/strong> that dates back to the <strong>17th century<\/strong> and takes place <strong>during Good Friday <\/strong>in Vercelli. The &#8220;Machines&#8221; are<strong> large wooden sculptures<\/strong> representing the Stations of the Cross and are <strong>kept in <\/strong>local fraternity <strong>churches <\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the procession, members of the confraternities<strong> carry the statues on their shoulders along the streets of the city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corsa dei Buoi (Ox Race) in Asigliano Vercellese<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>It takes place in May<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Legend has it that in 1436<strong> a plague struck Asigliano<\/strong>, causing death and devastation. The inhabitants, in despair, asked for<strong>St. Victor&#8217;s help<\/strong>, promising to <strong>make the oxen run slower <\/strong>in gratitude if the plague ceased.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their prayer was answered and<strong> the ox race<\/strong> has been celebrated ever since. Historical records date back to 1658, but the <strong>destruction of evidence<\/strong> during battles makes it difficult to trace the origins.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The patronal festival also includes the<strong> distribution of blessed bread<\/strong>, the triumphal float and the candle, sacred symbols. The enchantment of the <strong>floats<\/strong> on the Saturday before the festival is a<strong> significant moment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-landscape-lg\"><img
