The Cantina Fratelli Novara winery produces a very limited number of bottles, only 5,000 annually. With only 4 hectares of vineyard, cultivated in the municipality of Cisterna d'Asti, it is one of the smallest wineries in the Roero region.
An innovative spirit and respect for family traditions represent a constant commitment.
Through the guidance of their father Giuseppe Novara, sons Antonello and Riccardo introduced modern production processes.
The aim is to offer a quality product that reflects the family's sincere and direct spirit.
You won't find a ceremonious welcoming, large tasting halls or wines to be put to one side for the holidays. The philosophy is based on genuineness and the pleasure of offering wines to be savored on a daily basis.
Generations have gone by since grandfather Antonio used to bring his grapes to the local winegrowers cooperative, keeping just a few bottles of wine for his family and friends.
Even though the purchase of bulk wine constitutes and old ritual, yet still widespread nowadays, you can taste and purchase four labels directly from our company: Bonarda, Barbera, Nebbiolo and l’Arneis.
Visits to the winery
Coming from the Langhe, after crossing the town of Canale, the roads scrambles up the wide and panoramic hills.
The Cisterna d'Asti Castle, which can be visited and is home to the "Arti e Mestieri di un Tempo" (Arts and Crafts of Yesteryear) museum, dominates the San Matteo hamlet where the company is located. The castle contains objects pertaining to the material culture and the history of Piedmont.
The visit to the winery lasts roughly 1 hour; it is lead by the family members and begins with a stroll in the vineyard.
Among the Vigna Bricco Forno and Vigna San Giuliano vineyard rows you'll see how the ongoing work takes place and understand how the soil's typology, the climate and the soil's texture characterize the local wines.
Treatments carried out to maintain the grapevine's health are very targeted and limited. The company's philosophy is quite simple: respect for nature, the land and the environment
The small wine-making cellar occupies a single room. The wine-making processes will be illustrated among the stainless steel tanks of both white and red wines, from the arrival of the grapes right up to the bottling.
Small groups are preferable for the tasting sessions. We can host a maximum of 25 people and weather permitting we move outdoors. With prior notice we can also arrange a tasting session among the vineyard's rows.
You'll find wines and price details in the relevant "Tastings" box.
