The Cantina Fratelli Ferrero has been producing Barolo for three generations. It is now run by Renato and his wife Nina and their two children.
Founded at the beginning of the last century by Settimo Giuseppe, Renato’s maternal grandfather, the company has grown to become an important reality in the territory. Today it is made up of 5 hectares of vineyards, part of which are adjacent to the farmhouse, while others are located in various villages of La Morra.
Renato produces three different types of Barolo: the first, the Barolo DOCG, is a wine that isn’t too demanding, it’s rather soft, suitable for those approaching this type of wine for the first time.
The second wine they produce is the Barolo Gattera: a classic wine, structured, with good tannins and a taste that ranges from roasted hazelnuts to plums and dried fruit in general. Its scent is predominantly of tobacco which is typical of the Annunziata hamlet.
And finally, there’s the Barolo Manzoni, produced only in the best vintages and in small quantities. Its color is darker than the other two wines, much more structured, difficult to drink, course, but with a great potential for aging in crescendo.
The visit to the cellar
The visit begins from the farmstead to learn about and understand the process of wine production and the company’s history. It then moves on to the aging cellar, and after which we proceed to the ancient Manzoni Cellar where the Barolo rests.
In fine weather the visit continues with a visit to the Gattera and Manzoni vineyards where, depending on the season, you can watch the work carried out in the vineyard. And finally the tasting session, led by Nina, is a personal experience where your senses will be put to the test.
The guided tours are also available in several foreign languages, including: English, French, Danish and Swedish.
The vacation home
There are two comfortable and recently renovated apartments in the farmstead, equipped with all comforts and each with a separate entrance.
